FAQ
What is the meaning of Bag-in-Box?
The term Bag in Box refers to a packaging system consisting of a flexible bag contained within a corrugated cardboard box. This type of packaging is designed to store food-grade liquids, protecting them from light, air, and external contamination. Note: The bag is not included with the Bag in Box.
How does the Bag-in-Box work?
The outer cardboard box provides mechanical protection, makes transport easier. The inner bag with tap (not included) prevents oxidation and extends shelf life.
What sizes are available for Packly’s Bag-in-Box?
Packly offers Bag in Box cartons in sizes ranging from 3 to 5 liters, with or without a handle.
Are Packly’s Bag-in-Box cartons compatible with all types of bags?
Packly’s Bag in Box cartons are designed to be compatible with most standard bags on the market (with taps or valves). However, we recommend checking technical specifications when placing your order. Our team can assist you in ensuring the correct match between box and bag.
Are Bag-in-Box containers recyclable?
Yes. Our outer boxes are made from recyclable corrugated cardboard. The Bag in Box system also reduces environmental impact related to transport and storage.
Who are Packly’s Bag-in-Box for?
Our Bag in Box solutions are ideal for wine and oil producers, wineries, olive oil mills, food companies, and distributors. They provide a practical, safe, and elegant packaging option for selling food-grade liquids—both in e-commerce and retail environments.
How long does oil last in a Bag-in-Box?
When stored properly, oil packaged in a Bag in Box can last up to 12–18 months. The container (box and bag) protects the oil from light and oxygen—two key factors in rancidity—helping preserve its organoleptic properties longer than traditional containers.
How long does wine last in a Bag-in-Box?
Unopened, a Bag in Box wine can last up to 12 months, depending on the type of wine. Once opened, it retains its quality for 3–4 weeks if properly stored, even at room temperature.
What are the advantages of Bag-in-Box?
The main advantage of the Bag in Box system is its ability to preserve the freshness of the contents after opening. The flexible bag and anti-return valve protect the liquid from oxidation caused by air exposure. This is especially beneficial for products like wine, which can deteriorate quickly if not properly stored.
How does the Bag-in-Box system improve transport and storage?
The Bag in Box system is lighter and more compact than alternatives like glass bottles, making it ideal for shipping and storage. Additionally, the sturdy cardboard box reduces the risk of breakage compared to glass bottles, offering better protection during transit. This practicality not only enhances logistical efficiency but also helps reduce environmental impact.
Do you also provide the bag with tap?
We can support you in supplying a food-grade bag with a dispensing tap, compatible with the main Bag-in-Box formats. These bags are designed to ensure safety, hygiene and proper product dispensing. The bag can be purchased separately.
Are Bag-in-Box containers suitable for food contact?
Yes. In Bag-in-Box systems, the primary packaging is the food-grade bag, designed to safely contain the liquid and meet industry standards. The outer corrugated box serves as secondary packaging, providing protection, stability and ease of handling. The combined use of bag and box ensures optimal preservation and high traceability throughout the supply chain.
Are Bag-in-Box containers suitable for juices or other beverages?
Yes. Packly’s Bag-in-Box cartons can also be used for fruit juices, beverages, syrups and other liquid food products compatible with commonly available bags.
How should a Bag-in-Box be disposed of?
The outer corrugated box can be recycled with paper waste. The inner bag, made from different materials, must be separated and disposed of according to local recycling guidelines. If your Bag-in-Box includes a cotton handle, it should be removed and placed in general waste or disposed of according to local regulations. Correctly separating all components ensures more efficient recycling and helps reduce environmental impact.
